Lunar day

A tithi is the time taken by the Moon to advance 12° relative to the Sun. There are 30 tithis in a lunar month, split into Shukla and Krishna paksha.

Lunar mansion

27 fixed star constellations along the Moon's monthly path. Each spans 13°20' and influences personality, compatibility, and muhurat selection.

Sun-Moon combination

27 yogas computed from the combined longitudes of Sun and Moon. Some yogas are highly auspicious while some are generally avoided.

Half tithi

Half of a tithi. There are 11 karanas (7 movable + 4 fixed) used in activity-specific muhurat decisions.

Weekday

The weekday ruled by one of seven planets. Each vara favors specific activities.

Auspicious time window

A precisely chosen interval considered favorable for an activity, computed from Panchang limbs and planetary factors.

Time of Rahu

A daily ~90-minute window ruled by Rahu. Traditionally avoided for starting new auspicious activities.

Victorious moment

A time window around solar noon considered broadly auspicious for many activities.

Hour before sunrise

The period before sunrise, considered ideal for meditation, study, and spiritual practice.

Star strength

Checks compatibility between the day's nakshatra and your birth nakshatra for personal suitability.

Moon strength

Position of the transiting Moon relative to your birth sign, used in personalized muhurat judgement.

Planetary period

A multi-year planetary period influencing life themes; used for deeper personalized timing.

The daily Vedic calendar listing tithi, nakshatra, yoga, karana, and vara.

Auspicious / Inauspicious

Foundational labels for favorable vs unfavorable time windows in Vedic timing.

Time ruled by Saturn

A daily time segment associated with Saturn (Gulika). Considered unfavorable for auspicious beginnings but suitable for routine or recurring tasks.

Time of Yama

A daily period considered inauspicious for starting new ventures. It is ruled by Yama, the deity of death.

Bad muhurat period

Short durations in a day considered highly inauspicious for important activities, even if other factors are favorable.

Vishti Karana period

A period ruled by Vishti Karana, generally avoided for शुभ कार्य like marriage, travel, or new beginnings.

Five nakshatra phase

A group of five nakshatras (Dhanishta to Revati) considered sensitive for certain activities like construction or cremation rituals.

Eclipse period

Solar or lunar eclipse periods considered spiritually sensitive and generally avoided for auspicious activities.

Solar movement phase

Refers to Uttarayana and Dakshinayana, marking the Sun’s movement northward and southward, influencing auspicious timings.

Season in Vedic calendar

One of the six seasons in the Vedic calendar, used in determining long-term auspicious planning.

Ascendant sign

The rising zodiac sign at a given time. Crucial in selecting precise muhurat for events like marriage or गृह प्रवेश.

Day division system

A system dividing day and night into eight segments, each classified as auspicious or inauspicious for quick decisions.

Fortnight phase

The lunar fortnight: Shukla Paksha (waxing moon) and Krishna Paksha (waning moon).

New moon day

The last tithi of Krishna Paksha when the Moon is not visible. Important for rituals and ancestral offerings.

Full moon day

The last tithi of Shukla Paksha when the Moon is fully visible. Considered highly auspicious for many rituals.

Planetary hour

A system dividing the day into 24 planetary hours, each ruled by a planet. Used for selecting micro-level auspicious timing.

Sensitive time segment

Specific time intervals in a day considered sensitive or unfavorable for starting important activities.

Highly शुभ time

A highly favorable time window derived from Choghadiya or Panchang, considered ideal for all auspicious activities.

All-purpose success yoga

A rare and powerful yoga formed by specific weekday-nakshatra combinations, considered ideal for achieving success in all activities.

Astronomical Panchang

A Panchang calculated using precise astronomical data (Drik Siddhanta), ensuring higher accuracy for modern applications.

Traditional time system

Sun enters new sign

The transition of the Sun from one zodiac sign to another, marking important solar events and festival timings.

Moon zodiac sign
